Grant Purpose - This grant to the Community Foundation of Greater Flint will create an endowment fund for the benefit of the Flint Institute of Arts. The Flint Institute of Arts is an important asset to the community and provides a variety of cultural opportunities for area residents, including displays of its permanent collection and special exhibitions, an art school that offers studio classes for all skill levels, and educational programs for children and adults. The institute recently completed a major renovation and expansion of its building, adding new galleries and expanding the art school, and last year's attendance exceeded 100,000 for the first time. Annual operating costs have increased, and this endowment will help support building and programming expenses.
