The nation's third-largest school district has spent more than $100 million on technology in the last three years, but it's not enough to keep up with rising technology costs.
That's according to a new report from the Washington Post, which finds that districts are cutting back on technologyeven as they increase spending on teacher pay, supplies, and technology.
"We’re spending more and more money, but we’re not keeping up," says the district's chief technology officer.
"We’re not keeping up with new technology.
We’re not keeping up with emerging technology.
We’re not keeping up with the ever-evolving technology that’s coming out.
We’re not keeping up with the latest and greatest."
The Post's report, which looks at how districts are spending money on technology in the current school year, notes that more than half of the districts surveyed have invested in some kind of technology in the last three years, but only 25% have spent more than 10% of their budgets on it.
And that's not counting the money districts are spending on things like after-school programs and after-school tutoring.
