European Institute of Innovation and Technology to Launch New Knowledge and ...

"Water is fundamental for all life and human prosperity.

As Europe's largest innovation network, the EIT is best placed to connect the blue economy's experts and innovators to commercialise new products, educate and skill the next generation of talent, and grow new companies."

So says Nektarios Tavernarakis, chair of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology, a new Knowledge and Innovation Community (KIC) that's designed "to boost Europe's competitiveness, whilst investing in one of the globe's most precious natural resources," per a press release.

The EIT Water KIC, part of the EU's Horizon Europe research and innovation program, will focus on freshwater, marine, and maritime ecosystems, which are "under considerable and increasing stress due to the overuse and mismanagement of natural resources and changing land-sea uses," per the press release.

"Ultimately, our new Knowledge and Innovation Community will boost Europe's competitiveness, whilst investing in one of the globe's most precious natural resources," Tavernarakis continues.

The EIT Water KICwhich will be selected in 2025 and launched in 2026will work with leading companies, research organizations, and universities to develop new technologies, products, and services for the water, marine
