Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation



The Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation was established in the mid-1960s by the late entrepreneur and philanthropist Ewing Marion Kauffman.

The vision of the foundation is to foster a society of economically independent indviduals who are engaged citizens, contributing to the improvement of their communities. They carry out their vision through the four programmatic areas: Entrepreneurship, Advancing Innovation, Education, and Research and Policy.

They focus their grant making and operation on two areas, advancing entrepreneurship and improving the education of children and youth.

An Accidental Social Enterprise


Helen Trevaskis was inspired during her trips to India. As she visited the poverty-stricken slums of Bangalore, Delhi, Agra and Bombay, Trevaskis chose to create Clean Hands Inc, a fledgling social enterprise to improve health in developing countries through improved hand hygiene.
