Mott FoundationGrant Purpose - The project goal is to support a range of governmental and nongovernmental initiatives in Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, and Serbia to address issues of truth, reconciliation, and justice in response to wars and human rights abuses during the 1990s. The International Center for Transitional Justice will assist the governments and nongovernmental organizations in these countries to respond to a legacy of human rights abuses in order to prevent future violations, advance accountability, promote institutional reform, and respond to the needs of victims. In 2006-2007, the center provided technical assistance to a coalition of research and documentation centers; built the capacity of civic leaders and practitioners on transitional justice issues through retreats, fellowships, and seminars; and published analytical reports on various aspects of transitional justice initiatives in the Western Balkans. The center's program in the former Yugoslavia is coordinated jointly from its headquarters in New York and its Brussels office.
