Energy Innovation Challenge Launches $2.4M Program to Diversify Alberta'S Energy Economy

The Canadian city of Medicine Hat is kicking off the country's first-ever Energy Innovation Challenge to help small energy startups get their ideas off the ground and into the market, the CBC reports.

The three-year contest, which will run from 2024 to 2024, aims to reduce grid congestion and boost the economy of the oil- and gas-rich province of Alberta.

"The cost and reliability of electricity in Alberta are growing concerns as aging electricity infrastructure, increased grid congestion, and increasing regularity of extreme weather events take their toll," Anouk Kendall, president of Decentralized Energy Canada, says in a press release.

"The Challenge provides Canadian innovators with a platform to demonstrate decentralised energy solutions and the technical and economic benefits they bring to Alberta."

Interested parties can check out the challenge's website here.

The starting point is strategy.”
