The Press Democrat in Santa Rosa, Calif., has a new editorial board member.

Oscar Chavez, president and CEO of the Community Foundation Sonoma County, will serve on the paper's board for 18 to 18 months, the Press Democrat reports.

Chavez, a native of Mexico who moved to the US as a teen, has worked as a farm laborer and as a human services employee in Sonoma County, where he has served as executive director of the Community Action Partnership of Sonoma County and as a board member of First 5 Sonoma County and Health Action Together.

"We're pleased to introduce our newest community member," the paper states.

"He will be with us for 12-18 months."

Chavez, who joined the foundation last year, is a native of Mexico who worked as a farm laborer after immigrating to the US as a teenager.

He lives in Windsor with his wife and four children.
