Grant Purpose - This grant will enable the Genesee Area Focus Fund to continue to implement the Summer Youth Initiative for Flint area youth. The Summer Youth Initiative provides funding for approximately 25 nonprofit agencies and businesses to employ more than 450 Flint area youth ages 14 through 18 during the summer months. In addition to providing employment, the 2008 Summer Youth Initiative will emphasize developing leadership skills, engaging in volunteerism, and exploring careers. Finally, more than 7,000 children of all ages will be served by the Summer Youth Initiative through the services provided by the agencies employing the teenagers.
