Floyd McCree Theatre Grant

Organization - Floyd McCree Theatre
Grant Amount - $30,000
Foundation - Mott Foundation
Grant Purpose - This grant will support a summer fine arts program for Flint's inner-city youth. One of the goals of the Floyd McCree Theatre is to instruct African-American youth in the fine arts and provide a venue to display their talent. Despite bold efforts made by several community organizations, including the Flint Youth Theatre, there is still a void in the area of youth-centered urban arts. To address the lack of accessible fine arts education, the Floyd McCree Theatre will offer a pilot summer stock program that will train students in drama, music, and dance for ten weeks this summer. In the fall, the students will perform a classic African-American musical that will showcase their talents for the community.
