Institute for Healing of Memories Grant

Organization - Institute for Healing of Memories
Grant Amount - $90,000
Foundation - Mott Foundation
Grant Purpose - This grant will provide continued general purpose support to the Institute for Healing of Memories, an organization created to contribute to the healing of individuals and communities affected by the political conflict and violence during apartheid, and to share South Africa's experience of dealing with its past with the broader international community. The institute's core program is its Healing of Memories workshops, which provide a safe space for dialogue and openness to deal with issues such as reconciliation, forgiveness, dealing with the past, restorative justice, peace-building, and conflict resolution. In addition to workshops for individuals coping with the aftermath of apartheid, it has applied the same methodology to three new challenges facing South Africa: criminal violence in prisons, refugees, and HIV/AIDS.
