Grant Purpose - This grant to Friends of the Osa will be used to fund the acquisition of high biodiveristy-significant land in the Corcovado-Matapalo biological corridor on the Osa Peninsula of Costa Rica, home to the largest remaining contiguous block of moist tropical rainforest in Central America. It is one of the few places left in the tropics where primary rainforest extends right to the coastline thus preserving the terrestrial and marine ecosystem linkages. The corridor stretching south from Costa Rica's Corcovado National park serves as a critical biological extension to the park and therefore the outcome is to provide important migration habitat for jaguars, pumas, ocelots, tapirs, white-lipped peccaries, and other globally endangered species.
