Participative Development Initiative Grant

Organization - Participative Development Initiative
Grant Amount - $50,000
Foundation - Mott Foundation
Grant Purpose - This grant provides general purpose support to Participative Development Initiative, an organization that assists communities in implementing sustainable programs through training and mobilization of resources from their local governments for development initiatives. It advocates for the sustainable use of natural and human resources for economic and social development in South Africa. Established in 1998, the Participative Development Initiative has successfully provided training and mentoring support to hundreds of community-based initiatives in several provinces across South Africa. Working with civil society organizations and Ward Committees in targeted communities, the grantee will provide education and training for community members to develop a culture of self-reliance, help identify sustainable projects based on available human and natural resources, teach communities how to engage in local government planning and resource allocation processes, and advocate for community-initiated sustainable development projects.
