Grant Purpose - This grant to Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis provides support for the research and writing of a book on the history of community foundations in the United States. The manuscript will be finished in 2013 and published in 2014 to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the first community foundation. The book will be scholarly, but also accessible to a more general audience, which will include academic researchers, as well as community foundation practitioners, public policymakers, and donors, both nationally and internationally. The Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University will oversee the project. The author will be Eleanor Sacks, a historian who also has extensive practitioner and consulting experience in the community foundation field.
