Fort Smith Area Community Foundation

Fort Smith’s history dates from 1817, when a small fort was established near what would become the border of Arkansas and Oklahoma. Today, it is Arkansas’ second largest city with the state’s most diverse population. Despite per capita income 12 per cent above the Arkansas average, Fort Smith has the same 12 per cent poverty level as the rest of the state. So, there exist both the capacity for philanthropic funds and unmet community needs.
