A $4.33 million grant from the state of Massachusetts will fund the construction of a new regional dispatch center for police and fire departments in two communities, the Boston Globe reports.
"The existing dispatch centers at both the fire and police stations were constrained in space," Framingham Mayor Charlie Sisitsky says in a press release.
"This is an impressive example of what regional, shared services can provide to Massachusetts communities."
The new center, which will be located in an office building in downtown Framingham, will allow police and fire departments in Natick and Framingham to share resources and work more closely together.
"This collaboration is an amazing opportunity to streamline critical functions and enhance the services we provide to our communities and our first responders," says Natick Fire Chief Jason Ferschke.
The grant, awarded by the state's Executive Office of Public Safety and Security, will fund construction of the new center, which is expected to open in late 2019 or early 2020.
Framingham bought the building in March 2023, Patch.com reports.
