Swedish shoe maker ICE has become the first company to declare its products "climate positive."
The move comes after the company switched to 100% renewable energy for its production facilities, and it doesn't lose any money on the move, Quartz reports.
"We want to improve quality and health while saving resources at the same time," says ICE CEO David Ekelund.
"It works: the Swedish shoe label has been climate positive since 2019."
The company is working with the Outdoor Climate Innovation Initiative, which aims to make the outdoor industry a "productive test laboratory for a climate-positive economy," according to a press release.
The initiative wants to see the industry's emissions cut by up to 90% by 2050, and it wants to see products with a "climate-positive" label, meaning they're powered by renewable energy and don't contribute to greenhouse gas emissions.
"The industry urgently needs to prioritize in the 1.5 degree target over short-term policies in order to achieve Net Zero," says Jan Lorch, a member of the OCII and maker of outdoor brands VAUDE and Microsoft, in the press release.
"This creates a sustainable lifestyle, a sustainable society."
