The Illinois State Fairgrounds is a must-see for anyone planning a trip to Springfield, Ill., and a new master plan aims to make that trip even more enjoyable.
The plan released by the Illinois Department of Agriculture and the Community Foundation for the Land of Lincoln calls for major improvements to the 366-acre property, including the creation of a "Town Square" south of the Midway, the development of an onsite hotel property, and the expansion of sales and marketing functions, reports the Springfield News-Leader.
"When combined with the $58.1 million we invested in repairs and improvements, this master plan not only creates a future-focused blueprint for continued growth and success, but it also ensures that the Illinois State Fairgrounds is among the best in the nation," says Gov.
Bruce Rauner.
Among the plan's highlights: The goal is to increase attendance at year-round events, such as the Illinois State Fair and the Illinois State Show, as well as generate more revenue for the state.
The plan also calls for the creation of a 4-H center on the property.
