It's that time of year again: time for investors in the cleantech industry to take stock of what's in store for 2024 and figure out what kind of year it will be, Business Insider reports.

"I expect a curate's eggkind of year for global cleantech innovation in 2024," writes Cleantech Group's CEO, Jon Gertner.

Gertner lays out his expectations in a blog post titled "What's in Store for 24?" He predicts that venture and growth investment in the cleantech industry will be around $20 billion in 2024, down from $20.9 billion in 2023, though he notes that "the number for global cleantech venture and growth investment...

is likely slightly down on, the $20.9 billion recorded in 1H 2023."

Among his other predictions: AI will be "looked at harder and harder," materials will continue to "revolutionize," and "the hardware of the future is well and truly underway."
