Detroit's newly reopened Michigan Central Station was feted with a star-studded concert last night by Patti Smith, Jack White, The Clark Sisters, Kierra Sheard, Illa J, and Slum Village, WXYZ reports.
Smith, who was born in New York but grew up in Detroit, accepted an award on behalf of the city on behalf of her late husband, guitarist Fred Smith.
"I'd like to accept this award on my husband's behalf," she said, per the Detroit Free Press.
"I'd like to thank the mayor of Detroit, the city of Detroit, the Ford Foundation, and all of you who have made this happen."
The station, which was closed for more than a year due to financial problems, will be open to the public on Friday.
