The Northwestern University Dance Marathon is back for its 50th anniversary, and this year's participants are hoping to raise more than $2 million for charity.
The 15-hour event, which starts at 8pm Friday and runs through 11am Saturday at Welsh Ryan Arena, is one of the largest student-run philanthropies in the country, CBS Chicago reports, raising more than $23 million over the last 50 years.
The money raised will go to Ronald McDonald House Charities of Chicagoland & Northwest Indiana and the Evanston Community Foundation.
"It's a lot of fun, but it's also a lot of hard work," one student tells WLS.
"It takes a lot of time, a lot of dedication, and a lot of commitment."
Students will take part in five three-hour blocks of dancing, complete with music, games, and performances.
