A Michigan tech company has created a scholarship in the name of a young activist who died from cancer four years ago.
The Grand Rapids Community Foundation has endowed the Nika Marie Price scholarship to one student entering a STEAM-related field, such as science, technology, engineering, art, and math, MLive.com reports.
"She's not a boastful person," says longtime friend and coworker Lydia Kauffman.
"She did everything that she did because she knew it was right and she didn't ever need the accolades for it.
She would be proud, and maybe blushing a little bit."
Kauffman has taken over Price's position at Carnevale, a Grand Rapids-based tech company, as director of social impact.
The first recipient is expected to receive $1,700.
