24, Peru State College will be holding its first-ever "Giving Day," a 24-hour period during which students, faculty, and friends are encouraged to donate money, time, or anything else they can think of that will help the school's students.
"It's a reminder that, no matter the size of the college, every contribution counts, and together, we can achieve remarkable things," the college's president says in a press release.
Giving Day is meant to show "the profound importance of philanthropy in education," and it's a chance for students, faculty, and friends to "come together to make a significant impact," the press release says.
And it's not just money that's important: The day "fosters a sense of unity and shared purpose among students, faculty, staff, and alumni," the release says.
"It instills the values of philanthropy, empathy, and community engagement in students, teaching them the importance of giving back to their alma mater and society at large," the president adds.
In its first year, Peru State's Giving Day was so successful that the college plans to hold it every other year.
