At least four people are dead after a series of wildfires swept through the Hawaiian island of Maui, destroying hundreds of homes and forcing thousands of people to evacuate, the Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports.
Maui Fire Chief Edward Taomoto said Thursday that the fires have destroyed hundreds of homes and at least four people have been confirmed dead.
He said firefighters are still trying to contain the blazes, which started on Tuesday and destroyed at least 80 homes.
He said firefighters are working around the clock to get the blazes under control, but it could be weeks before the full extent of the damage is known.
