Shelley Elder receives 2022 James L. Rhoden Jr. Award for Visionary Philanthropy

"She gives of herself quietly and without any need to call attention to herself, and without any expectation of reward or return," says board president Kim Gresh of Georgia's Shelley Elder, who was last week awarded the "Award for Visionary Philanthropy" from the Cobb Community Foundation.

The award is given to business and community leaders who make "significant contributions to the community through gifts of time, talent, and treasure," per the foundation's website.

Elder, a partner at a law firm where she works with her son, gives 25% of her income to charitable causes, Gresh says.

"But she doesn't just give financially, she gives her time," Gresh continues.

"Shelley serves on the boards of the YMCA, Live Resources, the Extension, Cobb County Schools Foundation, Kennesaw Public Safety Foundation, North Cobb Rotary, Town Center Alliance, and Kennesaw Business Association."

The foundation, which was founded in 2003 in honor of founder Jim Rhoden, notes that Elder has been a part of "too many initiatives to name."

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that the 53-year-old is also a member of the boards of the YMCA, Live Resources, the Extension, Cobb County Schools Foundation, North Cobb Rotary, Town Center Alliance, and Kennesaw Business Association.
