The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is giving Nigeria's Kaduna State some much-needed help in the area of gender-responsive budgeting, the Guardian reports.

The foundation's Gender Center of Excellence (GCE) is training government officials in the state on how to make budgets more gender-sensitive.

"The world is rapidly changing, stressing the need to make programs and projects more gender-sensitive to help address the issues of gender inequality," Saude Atoyebi, the state's Focal Person on Social Investment, said at Saturday's training in Kaduna, per the News Agency of Nigeria.

"The knowledge and skills we will gain from this workshop will help keep our lenses clear as we approach our various programs from a better perspective in line with global best practices," Atoyebi added.

The GCE is working with the state's Social Investment Office and the Ministry of Human Services and Social Development on the training, as well as reviewing the state's Gender and Social Inclusion Policy.

The country's Women Country Representative to the United Nations, Beatrice Eyong, said at the training: "It ensures that the practical and strategic needs of women and men from different strata of society are met equitably."
