New Jersey's Essex County Community Foundation has received more than $1 million in donations in the wake of hurricanes Harvey and Irma, the foundation announced in a letter to the editor in the Star-Ledger.
The money will be used to help victims of the storms in New York and New Jersey, as well as to support the foundation's work in 34 cities and towns in the county.
"It's about the donors in our community who have consistently shown their generosity and compassion - especially during challenging times - through their philanthropy," the letter says. "Thank you for seeing that we can create positive change in our communities."
