The Grand Rapids Community Foundation has given $400,000 to Grand Rapids schools as part of its anticipated Challenge Scholars $4.5 million initiative to keep students at Harrison Park Elementary and Westwood Middle School in school and on course for a college degree.
The initiative includes renewable scholarships or vocational training for students. Challenge Scholars targets low-income students by helping them secure college degrees and accomplish quality academic credentials.

Nonprofit impact investing firm, Acumen, has invested $1.2 million to KZ Noir, a Rwanda-based coffee processing company owned by Kaizen Venture Partners. The investment will equip KZ Noir the funds for working capital, debt refinancing, and capacity expansion.
