Jeff Bezos is putting his money where his mouth is.

The Amazon founder's Bezos Earth Fund has pledged $51.7 million to help create 30 high seas marine protected areas by 2030, the BBC reports.

According to a press release, this is the "largest high seas funding commitment to date from private philanthropy."

The high seas are some of the world's most pristine waters and are home to more than 90% of the world's species.

But they're also home to some of the world's most destructive activities, like oil and gas drilling, mining, and fishing.

"The rapid creation of MPAs is critical to reaching 30% of the ocean by 2030," the press release states.

"The rapid creation of MPAs is critical to reaching the global goal of protecting 30% of the ocean by 2030."

The money will be used to create MPAs in Chile, the United States, Canada, Palau, and the Pacific Northwest, among other places.

The goal is to protect 30% of the world's oceans by 2030.
