Joan Lawrence, a longtime resident of Ithaca, NY, has died at the age of 91, the Ithaca Voice reports.
She was born in London, NY, and moved to Ithaca with her family when she was 5.
After working as a teacher, she became a teacher's aide and later a teacher's aide at a local elementary school.
She was an active member of her community, serving on various boards and committees.
She is survived by her children, Jill Lawrence, Janet Hawkes, John Lawrence, Jean Rightmire, and Jane Cullings; her grandchildren, Daniel Hawkes, Kathleen Hawkes-Boulay, Daniel Lawrence, Allison Rightmire, Ian Cullings, and Glen Cullings; and her brother, Alan Deegan.
