When Charles Barancik and his wife, Margery, opened the Resilient Retreat for first responders in Sarasota, Fla., in 1992, they didn't think it would grow to more than 100 rooms.
It did, and now, thanks to a nearly half-million-dollar grant from the Barancik Foundation, it will, reports the Sarasota Herald-Tribune.
The nonprofit will fund programming and staffing for the retreat, which offers yoga, meditation, and neuro-assisted learning as well as support for those who have suffered trauma at the hands of first responders.
The Baranciks have been active in the community since they opened the retreat, which is now run by the First responders Coalition of Sarasota and Manatee counties.
