The world's richest people are putting their money where their mouths are in an attempt to stave off the effects of climate change.
At a conference in Singapore on Tuesday, Bill and Melinda Gates announced their philanthropic arm, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, will invest $50 billion in climate change initiatives in Asia over the next five years, the BBC reports.
The Gates Foundation, which has already committed $30 billion to climate change initiatives in Africa and Latin America, says it will work with governments, businesses, and non-governmental organizations to develop strategies to reduce carbon emissions and prepare for the effects of climate change.

Weston Mill-based social enterprise Surplus Rescue CIC (Community Interest Company) recycles and finds homes for unwanted furniture. To date, it has received “extensive amounts” of quality second-hand furniture including desks, pedestals, cupboards and office chairs from a former local authority office equipment – and wants to find them a good home.
