Flint, Mich., has been grappling with its water crisis for years, and now the city is turning over management of three parks to the state, MLive.com reports.
The three parks are located along the banks of the Flint River: Riverbank Park, which was built in the 1980s as part of a flood control project; Chevy Commons, a 67-acre park that was once home to GM's four major production facilities in Flint; and Mott Park, a 72-acre park that was formerly home to a golf course and is now home to a disc golf course, kayak access, and a renovated clubhouse.
The three parks will be jointly managed by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and the Genesee County Parks and Recreation Commission.
"This is a great opportunity for us to continue to steward these properties for the benefit of the residents of Flint and for the state of Michigan," says a rep for the county's Parks and Recreation Commission.
