"The work it's doing mirrors the best work being done in more metropolitan areas because it is so focused on racism, discrimination, and equity within systems of care."

That's how Amy Ramirez describes her new role as executive director of the Healthcare Foundation Northern Sonoma County, reports the North Bay Business Journal.

Ramirez, a native of Sonoma County, Calif., takes over for Kim Bender, who retired earlier this year after more than four years of public service.

As part of her new role, Ramirez will oversee the foundation's grants to clinics and health-related nonprofits in the region, as well as its initiatives around community health, including a strong focus on mental health.

Among those initiatives: the foundation's full-tuition scholarships for local aspiring bilingual and bicultural students.

"Amy Ramirez brings exceptional leadership experience together with a systems-level perspective and the invaluable understanding of a hands-on medical social worker," says Healthcare Foundation Board Chair Wanda Tapia-Thomsen in a press release.

Ramirez has worked in management roles at Providence Health in Santa Rosa for nine years.

She most recently led the county's health investment team, where she oversaw community-wide grants to nonprofits.

Ramirez also led the development of Providence's 2023 Sonoma County Community Health
