When it comes to giving, it's all about "creating a lasting legacy of compassion and service that echoes the values shared by loved ones."
So says the Arizona Community Foundation, which offers a guide to philanthropy for families in the wake of the Orlando shooting.
Here's what you need to know: The basics: The foundation explains that family philanthropy "fosters a sense of unity, purpose, and shared priorities within a family, while supporting causes that are meaningful to them."
Examples: scholarships for students who might not otherwise continue their education, for instance.
How to get started: Visit azfoundation.org/legacygiving or call one of the Arizona Community Foundation's offices in northern Arizona at 928-583-7815.
What to do: "In earlier generations, philanthropic efforts were often driven by traditional values and personal connections to causes," the foundation says.
"The next generation of donors cares deeply about outcomes, accountability, and equity."
What to do: "By investing in the education and development of younger generations as philanthropists, families can ensure that their legacy of giving continues to make a lasting impact on their community for generations to come."
