Japan "stands out as a pioneer in leveraging to address societal challenges and foster innovation," the Information and Communications Technology Institute at London School of Business and Digital Media writes in an editorial review of the country's vision for the future of information and communications technology, published Tuesday in IEEE Spectrum.
"In Asia, Japan stands out as a pioneer in leveraging to address societal challenges and foster innovation."
To that end, Japan is aiming to become a "leader in shaping the future of ICT and driving economic growth by staying at the forefront of R&D," promoting international collaboration, and promoting open innovation, per the editorial.
Among its goals: to harness the power of quantum computing, artificial intelligence, and 5G to create a resilient and connected society; to promote open innovation by promoting sharing of resources and expertise; and to improve intellectual property protection and machine learning.
