Nonprofits were hard-hit by the Great Recession, but they're doing better this year than they did last, according to a report from the YOLO County Community Foundation.
"Most nonPROFITs toLD us they are mostly reCOVERED, which was really wonderful news," executive director Jessica Hubbard tells the Sacramento Bee.
"But about half of our nonPROFITs, which make up about half of our local nonprofits, do tell us that they're still STRUGGLING."
Some 44% of those nonprofits say they have no staff, and Hubbard says that's a "really hard HURDLE to get over, to get no staff to one," she tells KCRA.
"There's always been a really strong ethic in this industry, and I think there's always been a really strong effort here in YOLO County to meet the social needs of the community," she says.
The foundation's report is based on surveys of more than 100 nonprofits in the county.
