WFP Expands Resilience Activities to Support Small-Scale Farmers in Zambia

The UN's World Food Program USA has received a $500,000 grant from the Citi Foundation to help more than 17,000 small-scale farmers in Zambia weather droughts and other climate changes, the Washington Post reports.

According to a press release, WFP will use the money to train farmers on financial literacy, boost their access to credit and risk insurance, and offer forecasting services.

"This program is a game-changer," WFP's country director in Zambia says.

"Through this program, we hope to empower farmers with the necessary tools and resources to overcome climate-related challenges and increase their income and food security."

The initiative is part of the Citi Foundation's Global Innovation Challenge, which aims to address food security and strengthen the physical and financial health of low-income families and communities.
