"There's always a fairy godmother in every grand ball, but for the glittering and star-studded Tatler Ball, the bearer of good fortune is a fairy godfather," writes Anton San Diego in an Instagram post from the Philippines.
It turns out that fairy godfather is Ramon Ang, a billionaire who attended the ball last month and donated $25 million to the cause.
The education start-up U-Go will use the money to provide scholarships to 75 to 100 women who want to pursue higher education, reports the AP.
Ang is known for his philanthropy, and San Miguel Corp. is one of his companies.
"Truth is, I'm no different from most Filipinos who simply want a better future for their families," he said in his acceptance speech at the ball.
"I love what I do, and while it's not always easy, I find meaning and purpose in it," he continued. "Beyond that, I feel a sense of duty and responsibility to our country. Just like everyone in this room, I want to see our country succeed."
