Plutocratic biases are baked into the policies that structure charitable giving and big foundations.
Despite the eye-popping size of large foundations and the growth in the total number of foundations, the overwhelming majority of total giving, at least in the United States, comes from living donors making charitable contributions.
The array of policies designed to stimulate the charitable donations of ordinary citizens and the philanthropic projects of the wealthy subvert, rather than support, democratic aims.
