According to the National Committee for Responsive Philanthropy, some 125 leading US foundations that represent more than $3.37 billion in total during annual giving commits to prioritizing the needs and promoting democratic participation of underserved communities.

Among the grantmakers were the NoVo Foundation, Cleveland Foundation, and the United Way of New York City.

To address the ongoing issue of student dropouts, Toronto District School Board (TDSB) teacher Craig Morrison started a school-business program called the Oasis Skateboard Factory (OSF) to help keep teens stay in school.
