During the deep recession and mass layoffs in 2008 and 2009, almost 2 million Californians lost their health insurance. Thus, there are a total of 8 million uninsured Californians.
According to the UCLA Center for Health Policy Research Director Shana Alex Lavarreda, those estimates will help them understand the scale of the damage inflicted on California over the last 2 years.
