The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation is a nonprofit corporation governed by the laws of the State of New York. It was founded on the 30th of June 1969 through the consolidation of Avalon Foundation and Old Dominion Foundation.
Currently, The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation is making grants in five core program areas: Higher Education and Scholarship; Scholarly Communications and Information Technology; Art History, Conservation, and Museums; Performing Arts; and, Conservation and the Environment.
The foundation's philosophy is to build, strengthen, and sustain institutions and thier core capacities.
