The Community Foundation is a philanthropic institution that was established in 1928 through a bequest. It is the largest charitable organization in its region of twenty-towns and over 600,000 people; its endowment is currently valued at approximately $300 million.
The foundation is among the oldest and largest of more than 700 community foundations in the United States. In 2007, The Foundation distributed over $12 million in grants.
Teach for America is a social venture that hires graduating seniors from some of the most selective colleges and offers them with five-week training courses before unleashing them for a minimum of two years in some of the country’s worst classrooms.
