Fund for Women Awards $250,000 in Grants

The Fund for Women at the Delaware Community Foundation has awarded a record $249,575 in grants to 18 nonprofit organizations serving women and girls in Delaware's three counties.

The grants, the largest amount the foundation has granted in a single year, offer organizations seed money for innovative, creative programming, or funding to continue or expand programs where effectiveness has been demonstrated, the News Journal reports.

Among the recipients: Boys and Girls Clubs of Delaware, $15,000 to expand Girls on the Run teams and programming to 10 more clubs; Child Inc., $15,000 to expand transitional housing for 11 victims of intimate partner violence and their 21 children; Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition, $15,000 to reach underserved Hispanic populations in Delaware; Delaware Center for Justice, $15,000 to provide training and case management to help women reenter the community after incarceration; First State Community Action Agency, $15,000 to provide education and resources to break down barriers for women's healthcare services; Fresh Start Scholarship Foundation, $15,000 for partial education scholarships for at-risk Delaware women; Jewish Family Services of Delaware, $15,000 for mental health care for women experiencing perinatal and postpartum depression; Junior League of Wilmington, $15,000 to provide period products to the community through a network of partners; La Esperanza Inc., $5,200 to establish a digital and financial literacy program for
