"Even though the current COVID-19 situation no longer constitutes a global health emergency, vaccines remain our best line of defense as the virus continues to circulate across the country and worldwide."
So reads a press release from Canada's health minister, announcing $485,000 in funding for 38 community-based projects that aim to raise awareness of the importance of getting vaccinated against the virus, which the World Health Organization has deemed an "established and ongoing health issue."
Seven projects were awarded $25,000 each, while 31 others received $10,000 each, the AP reports.
"These community-based projects play a fundamental role in building trust in vaccines," Dr. Jean-Yves Duclos says in the release.
The projects were chosen based on their ability to raise awareness in communities "where booster uptake is low to encourage them to increase their protection against COVID-19," the health minister notes.
