The wood used to build the governor's mansion in Elkins, West Virginia, was sourced from local forests, and a local nonprofit will use a state grant to tell the tale.
The West Virginia Humanities Council has awarded the Kump Education Center a $2,000 mini-grant to help pay for a "Wild, Wonderful Woods" celebration at the governor's mansion on June 24, reports the Herald-Mail.
The event will feature children's activities like making ornaments for the national Christmas tree, as well as wood-related vendors and more.
"The event will be a wonderful way to bring together wood-related local artisans and organizations and acknowledge West Virginia's 160th anniversary of statehood," says Heather Biola, director of the Kump Education Center.
