The week of Nov.
12 to 18 is Community Foundation Week, a time for more than 1,000 community foundations across the country to come together to raise awareness about how philanthropy can help their communities, the Indianapolis Star reports.
The Community Foundation of Jackson County is one of those community foundations, having awarded more than $10 million in grants since its founding in 1992.
The foundation's mission: "to celebrate the rich past of Jackson County, people like Brooke and her three children, as we enter the giving season, providing opportunities for donors to make a difference in their own ways through charitable giving."

She tells the Star that the Community Foundation of Jackson County's Coaching for Success program helped her get a job in manufacturing and keep it.
The program is one of many funded by the foundation, as well as Jackson County United Way.
