First Federal Community Foundation issues $741300 in grants throughout area

An unusual bank is supporting various organizations, projects and charities in areas where it has full service branches. First Federal started giving back in 1923 but since January 2015 alone it has awarded over $741,300 to the local community.

When the bank went public in 2015 it started the private foundation by providing it with $400,000 cash and 933,360 shares in the parent company's stock. The first act of the foundation was $100,000 to the Dungeness River Audubon Society to repair a historical bridge. While the giving continues the next round of grants will be announced late April 2016.

In an era where banks might be viewed as "against" the people, this multi-branch bank is giving back to the small communities of Clallam, Jefferson and Kitsap counties who helped them make their start over 90 years ago.
