Schools in Denver that were failing to educate children were given millions of dollars in grants in an effort to improve the quality of education. In most cases, this experiment failed with most schools showing very little improvement.
Some experts say that funneling money in to an already failing system was not a good idea, as the outcome can be expected to be poor. There are rare cases of large improvements, such as a 24-point improvement in math proficiency at Denver's Trevista Elementary school. However, this seems to be a rare case where throwing money at a problem fixes it.
Pueblo city schools have not improved despite $10 Million dollars being given to their district. With these failures in mind, it looks like the federal government has pulled back the reins on this program to prevent further losses with little to show for.
