The Community Foundation of Western North Carolina has awarded $589,500 in scholarships to 91 students in 55 schools in 19 counties.
The recipients, who will each receive a $20,000 scholarship for four years, "are some of the best and brightest high school students in the state of North Carolina," the foundation says in a press release.
More than 60 volunteers in the community reviewed the applications and selected the winners.
Among the winners: Lily Foo from Asheville High School.
She was awarded the Irving Jacob Reuter Award, valued at $60,000 over four years.
Ivy Niemas from Martin L.
Niemas High School.
She was awarded the Nathaniel Ellis Cannady Jr.
Scholarship, valued at $20,000 over four years.
Adale Davey from Asheville High School.
He was awarded the Marilyn Lester and William Lester Scholarship, valued at $40,000 over four years.
Kyleah Searles from Asheville High School.
She was awarded the Marilyn Lester and William Lester Scholarship, valued at $40,000 over four years.
